Melvin Cravitz:
A Lasting Legacy

Creating light from the darkest moments

Melvin Cravitz was tragically murdered at the Heaton Park Synagogue on Yom Kippur,
2 October 2025

The purpose of the Mensch Like Melvin charity is to help make the world a better place by inspiring both current and future generations to aspire to be a mensch, just as Melvin was and to bring communities together — ensuring Melvin's legacy and belief in the goodness and kindness of others and the importance of positive connections between all people lives on.

About Melvin

Those who knew Melvin describe him as a true mensch (a person of integrity, warm, dependable, decent and compassionate). Melvin has also been described as someone who wouldn’t hurt a fly, a person who thrived on human connection, and who was always ready to help others. Melvin was the kind of person who felt disappointed if he couldn’t support someone in need. Even in his final moments, he showed concern and care for those around him.

After Melvin’s death, the stories and tributes shared made it clear just how much of a positive difference he made in the lives of others.
